We’ll work with you.

Together, we’ll improve lives

With us, you’ll have all the support you need to help Staffordshire’s children and families thrive. Together, we can improve lives and make a positive difference to our community.

In Staffordshire, we have over 870,000 residents – and this number continues to grow. Across the county there’s considerable economic diversity, including pockets of rural isolation and extreme deprivation. In fact, there are approximately 13,500 residents living in areas that are in the top 10% of the most deprived areas nationally. So we’re investing millions into children’s social care and innovating our working practices to ensure a whole-family approach to prevention and early help.

Continual investment and innovation

We’re proud that Staffordshire’s children’s services were rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2019 and we remain  ambitious. We’re working hard to do, and be, even better. We’ve invested over £9 million to increase the size of our social work teams and develop our new whole-family approach to prevention and early help. We’ve also freed-up more time for our social workers to change the lives of our most vulnerable families.

More than this, we’ve invested in a Family Group Conference service to offer support to children and families at the earliest possible point. And our Intensive Prevention Service and Breathing Space Teams continue to support children in creative and innovative ways.

Sustainable improvement

Our Children and Families System Transformation plan is creating one system that places children and their families at the heart of all we do. Where support is required, access is local and accessible – and it really makes a difference. Our system uses intelligence, data and learning to inform our commissioning and service development. And, as an organisation, we ensure that we take the time to reflect, learn and continually improve.

We’re helping to build family and community resilience and reduce the number of children who need a Child Protection Plan or become Children in Need. Research shows that positive outcomes for children who need statutory intervention are less favourable than for their peers. We can transform their lives by helping them be part of strong, resilient families and communities. What’s more, when we meet the needs of families at the earliest point possible, we prevent the need for a costly intervention later.

Empowerment and prevention

Our aim is to help families stay together safely, wherever we can. We want all the children and families we help to be as independent as possible. It’s our job to empower them. Providing innovative, community-based solutions across the county is a key part of this. In fact, it’s one of the County Council’s key priorities: to ensure that there’s a network of support to help people manage their own problems and stay safe and well.

By working with our partners in Staffordshire’s Family Strategic Partnerships and building new relationships between families and the organisations that support them, we’re reducing gaps in the service provision and helping families do more for themselves every day. While our safety net of professional social work practitioners are there for those families who need it.
